One of the most vibrant societies within the university, the History Soc is always planning new and exciting events. This includes trips and excursions to Historic sites and northern England, as well talks and our annual guest lecture programme.
Guest Lecture Programme: held most Tuesdays in the Meadows lecture theatre between 6pm and 7:30pm, our extra-curricular lecture series allows you to indulge interests both within and outside our lecture programme, with speakers from both within the university and further afield. FREE for all students and staff.
Confirmed Dates:
Tuesday 29th January: Calling all historians!
Its, cold, damp, snowy, Christmas is over and we're all trying to remember
just how we actually managed to do any work last semester. That's right, the
January blues are back with a vengeance as we return to the wonderful world of
reading, essays and tutorials. But not to fear, the History Society is back with
another of its exciting guest lectures. Kicking off the new semester, we have Dr
Paul Quigley presenting 'The Problem of Slavery on the Fourth of July,
1861-1865', a must if you're planning to see either Lincoln or Django Unchained
(particularly if you're studying American History. As always, we will be having
our wonderful (and very free!) wine and chocolate reception afterwards -
although we do have non alcoholic beverages if you're that way inclined. We
start at 6pm on Tuesday 29th January in the Meadows Lecture Theatre. Hope to see
you there!
