The DOS and the Personal Tutor. Spot the Difference?
At first sight, the recent change from the DOS, or Director of Studies, to the Personal Tutor system of staff-student contact does seem like a bit of a pointless exercise. Why bother going to all that trouble altering the MyEd computer system and notifying literally thousands of students, only to give them the same person (staff leave excepted) as they had last year? Well apparently, the answer is simple. Far more than just a re-brand, the Personal Tutor has been designed to represent a change in ideas and to sponsor a closer relationship between staff and student. Now, rather than just meeting your DOS once a year and hearing the usual 'good luck and I hope I don't see you again' (they mean it in a nice way, honestly), students are expected to meet with their tutor on a regular basis in order to discuss their progress and any issues that they may have. Will this actually happen in practice? We're not sure. Still, at least they're trying, right?
To find out who your personal tutor is, log in to MyEd Channel and their details should appear on the right hand side of the welcome page. If not, try the Studies Tab!
Also, remember to meet them when you re-matriculate!
